A.P.I.B.A se entristece al compartir las palabras de la profesora Pat Simeone para despedir a nuestra queridísima Ana Armendáriz.

Queridos alumnos y profesores:
Con un gran dolor les comunico el fallecimiento de la Profesora Ana María Armendariz.
Desde su querido Joaquín la recordaremos siempre como una de las grandes PROFESORAS que ha dejado su huella inviolable y que nos ha enorgullecido por su admirable dedicación, su impecable nivel académico y esa envidiable relación con sus amados alumnos.
Querida Ana, un gracias inconmensurable y siempre estarás presente en cada una de nuestras clases a través de ese transcendente legado que nos has dejado.
Los restos de Ana serán trasladados directamente al cementerio de la Chacarita , en donde se le hará una ceremonia religiosa mañana sábado 11 de febrero a las 9.10hs. En la capilla central (ubicada a dos cuadras de la entrada principal del cementerio) se realizará una pequeña ceremonia.
A todos aquellos que quieran acompañar a Ana en este tramo final, nos encontramos a las 9hs en frente a la capilla.

Deseamos transmitirles la cordial invitación recibida por APIBA, dirigida a sus Socios y Voluntarios, para asistir a la celebración del Día Internacional del Voluntariado el próximo lunes 19 de diciembre de 17.30 a 20.30 hs en la Sociedad Hebraica Argentina, Sarmiento 2233, 7º piso, CABA, organizada por las ONGs que figuran al pie.

Este evento es relevante para nuestra Asociación, gestionada gracias a la colaboración generosa y desinteresada de sus Socios que año tras año han sido, son y serán Voluntarios Miembros de CD, asesores de la CD, Coordinadores de SIGs y colaboradores en Sub-comisiones y Proyectos. APIBA también se nutre del aporte voluntario de profesionales y estudiantes de Profesorado, quienes donan horas de su tiempo para brindar apoyo a la misión institucional (Ver Agradecimientos en Memoria 2011).

NOTA: Las cuotas se abonan por el monto según la fecha de pago (ver cuadro).

Museo / A.G.O. / Cierre SIGs y Brindis de Fin de Año APIBA

El pasado sábado 19 de noviembre tuvo lugar la inauguración del Museo APIBA, un hito más en la historia de los 40 años de la Asociación que brinda un testimonio de la labor realizada en estas cuatro décadas.

La CD de APIBA agradece a Librería KEL por el espacio que brinda para el Museo en su sucursal Belgrano (Conde 1990, C.A.B.A.), a la museóloga Diana Klug por su generosa y desinteresada asesoría, a la socia Valeria Kharsansky por colaborar con las miembros de CD María Luisa Ghisalberti y Claudia Naom en este proyecto, a la diseñadora gráfica Ana Pezzutti por su dedicación y compromiso, y a todos los socios y amigos que han contribuido, y lo continúan haciendo, para que el Museo APIBA registre la historia de nuestra querida Asociación. Los contactamos en esta oportunidad para invitarlos a la inauguración del Museo de APIBA, un hito más en la historia de los 40 años de la Asociación que brinda un testimonio de la labor realizada en estas cuatro décadas. Aprovechamos la ocasión para celebrar con un desayuno que servirá de antesala a la Asamblea General Ordinaria que nos convoca anualmente a resolver los temas enunciados en el orden del día, a evaluar la gestión de la Comisión Directiva saliente y a repensar el futuro de la Asociación.

La Comisión Directiva de la Asociación de Profesores de Inglés de Buenos Aires tiene el agrado de convocar a los señores Asociados a la ASAMBLEA GENERAL ORDINARIA a realizarse en la Librería KEL, Sucursal Belgrano R, sita en Conde 1990, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, el sábado 19 noviembre de 2011 a las 9.30 hs. para tratar el siguiente:

ORDEN DEL DIA

1. Designación de dos socios presentes para firmar el Acta de Asamblea.

2. Lectura y aprobación de Memoria, Balance, Inventario General, Cuentas de Gastos y Recursos e informe de la Comisión de Cuentas por el ejercicio finalizado el 30 de julio de 2011.

3. Reformulación de la resolución de la Asamblea General Ordinaria del 6 de octubre de 2007

4. Cuota Anual y situación de la Asociación: cantidad de socios y finanzas.

5. Actualización Código de Ética. Añadido del siguiente item al apartado “Del Ejercicio Profesional”:

“Los socios en los múltiples roles en que se desempeñen (empleadores, coordinadores, directores, docentes de aula o de apoyo, examinadores, asesores, etc.) deberán respetar principios legales y éticos evitando la superposición de funciones y los conflictos de intereses.”

REPORT ON FAAPI TUCUMAN 2011 - by APIBA Member Cecilia Cicolini, Winner of APIBA's First-time Speaker Scholarship

I had the pleasure of attending the latest FAAPI Conference, held in Tucumán last September, as the winner of APIBA´s First Time Speaker Scholarship 2011. Attending FAAPI has always been a unique opportunity for networking with colleagues from all over the country, for attending workshops and academic paper presentations on a wide variety of topics and for meeting outstanding figures in the field of ELT from Argentina and abroad. FAAPI Tucumán was no exception, with over 1000 participants eager to share professional experiences and to reflect on the current state of ELT, while enjoying the breathtaking mountain scenery and the spring in full bloom in the “Garden of the Republic”.

I am mostly interested in integrating current technologies to good practices in ELT, so most of the sessions I attended were related to that field. They all proved to be highly interesting and innovative and they were all packed, which shows a powerful trend in language education. The session which I presented was also part of this trend: Web 2.0 Tools in the Communicative Language Class. I feel proud to have contributed to the training of some of the teachers who attended FAPPI, many of them eager to learn new teaching strategies in the light of the recent introduction of netbooks in the classrooms in state schools.

Being a presenter at FAAPI for the first time has been a milestone in my career. I feel honoured to have been awarded the First-Time Speaker Scholarship by APIBA and I hope I have represented the Association to my best ability.

“I am one of the facilitators (ad honorem) of a project in iEARN called One Day in the Life.

I have received this letter from a teacher who wishes to partner up with a group of Spanish speaking students and I was wondering if we could send an invitation to the other [APIBA] members [...]. It' s a very nice way of encouraging students to communicate in English and learn about other children's/adolescents' culture, routines... you name it.

My name is Diane Mehegan. I teach 7th and 8th grade Spanish in Massachusetts, USA. I would like to partner up with a class who would like to communicate in both English and Spanish. My students are beginners and advanced beginners to the Spanish language. The topics on the IEARN site would be great for them to practice their Spanish and get to know some Spanish speaking peers. They could post in English as well, so that those who want to practice Englsh can do so.

Do you have any suggestions for me as to how to find a partner class? My students are 12-14 years old.

A wide selection of motivating activities will be presented including different questioning techniques, mini surveys, memory activities, jigsaws, etc. Emphasis will also be put on the fact that every person has a story to tell, and that the speaking skill can be developed more effectively if we encourage the learner to translate their individuality through the foreign language and if we stimulate their imagination and creativity.

Participants will be supplied with a generous handout with activities ready to be used.

2. PEOPLE AND THEIR WAYS: CALLING PEOPLE BY THEIR NAMES

We will focus on a number of ways to call people according to some of their characteristics. For instance, you most certainly know that a couch potato is an individual who spends a lot of time sitting around reading or watching T.V. But

is dominated by a woman
whose behaviour is absolutely contemptible

« Instructional strategies for examining patterns across languages and developing an awareness of multilingualism and cultural diversity »

ABSTRACT:

This longitudinal study examined how students made sense of their multilingual linguistic landscape as they observed language contact and literacy practices in language awareness activities at school. This teacher-researcher collaboration was informed by research on multilingualism, educational innovations related to language diversity and advances in critical pedagogies. This work drew on advances in French and English scholarship on multilingualism (Cenoz & Genesee, 1998; Coste, 2002; Dagenais, in press; Hornberger, 2003; Martin-Jones & Jones, 2000, Moore, 2007, Sabatier, 2007); educational innovations focused on language diversity (Candelier, 2003; Hawkins, 1984; Perregaux et al., 2004), applications of critical theory to language teaching (Fairclough, 1992; Norton & Toohey, 2004; Pennycook, 2001) and expanded on studies of geosemiotics and interactions with environmental print (Bourhis & Landry, 1997; Bulot, 1998; Calvet, 1994; Scollon & Scollon’s, 2003).

My scholarship is situated in the field of applied linguistics and focuses specifically on the study of language education. I have developed an interest in issues of language learning in contexts of linguistic and sociocultural diversity as they relate to immigration, bilingualism, multilingualism, literacy, second language and bilingual (immersion) education. I have pursued three lines of work over the years: 1) Family and school language interactions and literacy practices among children of diverse origins; 2) representations of multilingualism and language education constructed by young children, adolescents, their teachers and immigrant parents; 3) educational change processes and innovations in language teaching.

El libro está dividido en dos partes: La primera (The written word) es una reflexión sobre la importancia de la escritura en la educación formal y se refiere a las características del discurso académico, a la diferencia entre el código escrito y oral, a géneros y tipos textuales. La segunda (The writing process) se refiere a las convenciones a seguir para producir un trabajo de investigación del tipo que se pide en las asignaturas en nuestros establecimientos de formación terciaria. Surgió a partir de mi experiencia en la enseñanza de Análisis del Discurso y de Redacción Académica en los últimos años y de las notas que fui elaborando y las preguntas que me fueron haciendo los alumnos a lo largo de estos años.
